System Preparation There are many ways to create PDFs: printing from applications, printing to PDF Writer, and printing to distiller, but the most reliable method is to print a postscript file and distill it using Acrobat Distiller. For optimal results and high quality PDF files the Adobe PostScript printer driver (AdobePS) and the Acrobat Distiller PostScript Printer Description (PPD) file are recommended. This will ensure that consistent, device-independent 3DAPv2 PDF files are created. When creating PostScript files for distilling, use the latest version of the AdobePS drivers. These AdobePS printer drivers are available from the Adobe Web site. The Acrobat 4.05 CD ROM contains both the printer driver and the PPD, alternatively they can be downloaded from the Adobe web site at: http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/pdrvmac.htm for Macintosh users or http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/pdrvwin.htm for windows users Acrobat 4.05 and 5.0 installs a PPD file: Acrobat Distiller (Macintosh) & ADISTx.PPD (Windows, x is the version of Acrobat: ADIST4.PPD or ADIST5.PPD). Earlier versions of the Acrobat software installed a PPD, which included default settings not appropriate for high-resolution printing, such as RGB for the default colour space. The current Acrobat Distiller PPD includes default settings for high-resolution printing. Using the Distiller PPD is recommended because it doesnt write device-specific information in the resulting PostScript file, yet it allows the selection of certain high-end controls, such as custom paper sizes for oversized jobs. Installing Postscript Printer Driver.
Run the print driver installation wizard and specify Acrobat PPD. Under Select Port: specify File: Local port. The default is the PPD name.
Create a Postscript file by printing from the application.
